Abstract

This research paper explores the influence of Pudovkin's editing techniques on the Tamil film industry, also known as Kollywood, in establishing strong emotional connections with the audience. Pudovkin, a Soviet filmmaker and film theorist, emphasized the power of editing as a means to evoke emotional responses and enhance storytelling. His principles of contrast, parallelism, symbolism, simultaneity, and leitmotif laid the foundation for modern-day cutting. Tamil filmmakers have found inspiration in these techniques to create diverse films and innovative storytelling approaches. By skilfully editing sequences of shots, manipulating pacing, and employing visual cues, Tamil filmmakers intensify emotions and engage viewers on a deeper level. This research paper analyses specific examples from Tamil films that incorporate Pudovkin's editing techniques to establish emotional connections and highlights the impact of these techniques on the cinematic experience.
