Modernizing a Classic: Adaptation Effects in Anne with an E
Keywords:
Adaptation, cause and effect, inclusion, exclusionAbstract
This article examines how the classic novel Anne of Green Gables is transformed in its contemporary screen adaptation, Anne with an E. The analysis explores the factors that shape narrative change, particularly authorial implication, directorial intervention, and the adaptation process itself. It considers how these influences result in significant transformations to the storyline. A close reading of the novel alongside the series highlights major shifts, including the introduction of new characters and events, the omission of others, and the expansion of implied themes. The findings demonstrate that shifts in medium, historical context, and creative interpretation inevitably produce either subtle or substantial changes in adapted works.
